Sunday 15th March – travel and walk *** – sunny.

After much planning mainly done by Mag we are off to the French mountains for the first time in 6 years, with our two cats safely shut in the house and feed and the van packed we leave Felixstowe on a breezy sunny day at 8.30. The journey to the shuttle went surprisingly well and we actually got on a train half an hour early which meant we got we to France at around midday or one French time and we soon got the hang of driving on the wrong side of the road! We are not messing around on this trip as we are only away for 10 days and headed straight for the toll motorway towards Reims. The French motorways are amazing so smooth and quiet, real stress-free driving, we stopped for lunch and Mag took over driving for a couple of hours, the countryside is so flat with massive fields and hundreds of wind turbines looking great against the blue sky! We stopped just short of Troyes for a cuppa and looked on the map for somewhere off the motorway to stay the night and I spotted a huge lake nearby called Lac d’ Auzon - Temple and set Mag’s mobile for a place called Geraudot but could find anywhere to park by the Lac, we reached a Mesil St. Peire where there was a long beach and sailing centre. The wind had dropped light and the sun was setting making it look brilliant. We stopped and walked the long breakwater with just our jumpers on as it was 18 degrees with several grebes driving for fish! We then headed back the way we had come and found a quiet car park in the woods near the Lac, we quickly walked to the Lac, it was a little soggy underfoot to see the sky turn red as the sun disappeared. The van was quickly sorted for our overnight stop, it didn’t take long to get back in the swing of camper life, Iceland supplied dinner, a frozen meal in a bag which was yummy and only took 10 minutes to cook! We were knackered so went to bed early and slept pretty well under two duvets :)
